Summer 2026 · Park Academy, Lake OswegoRon Yoshimoto Is Bringing OG to Your Classroom
One of the most respected OG educators in the world is bringing his classroom-ready training back to Portland this August.
Decades of training classroom teachers. A lifelong colleague of LST's founder, Dorothy Blosser Whitehead.
Our Mission in the ClassroomReaching every struggling reader — right where they sit.
When Dorothy Blosser Whitehead began this work in 1960, she believed something radical for her time: that the structured, explicit methods proven to help dyslexic children shouldn't stay locked inside one-on-one tutoring. They belonged in the classroom, where they could reach every child who struggles to read. Bringing world-class Orton-Gillingham training to Oregon's teachers is how we carry that belief forward.
That's why we partner with the International Dyslexia Association–Oregon to host Ron Yoshimoto, a renowned educator, Orton-Gillingham Fellow, and founder of Orton-Gillingham International. These trainings are built for classroom teachers, interventionists, and reading specialists — anyone who wants practical, evidence-based tools they can use Monday morning. No prior OG experience required.
Ron's connection to LST runs deep. A longtime friend of our founder, he honored Dorothy's memory by establishing scholarships in her name after she passed — a reflection of the same generosity he brings to these trainings each year. Welcoming him to Oregon is both a privilege and a continuation of the shared mission that has shaped this work for decades.

Meet Ron
Ron Yoshimoto is one of the most respected Orton-Gillingham educators in the country. A Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and founder of Orton-Gillingham International, he has spent decades training classroom teachers, interventionists, and reading specialists across the United States, Canada, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Teachers who complete his training describe it the same way: demanding, hands-on, and immediately useful. One educator with over 40 years in the classroom called it some of the best and most useful training she'd ever attended, and said she'd already begun applying it with her students within days. Another described it simply as the best training she had ever been to — challenging, but exactly the kind of challenge that pays off once it clicks.
Ron's connection to LST runs deep. He was a longtime friend and colleague of our founder, Dorothy Blosser Whitehead, and in 2007 established a scholarship in her name through IDA-Oregon, created specifically to help public school teachers afford this kind of training. He has since established a second scholarship in his own name through the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, reflecting the same belief that shaped Dorothy's life's work: that every classroom teacher deserves access to methods that actually help struggling readers.
Welcoming Ron back to Oregon each summer is both an honor and a continuation of the work Dorothy started in 1960.
